Little Lens Explorers serves children ages 6 to 14, split across two courses. Little Lens Explorers 1.0 is our beginner course for ages 6 to 12 and assumes no prior camera experience. Little Lens Explorers 2.0 is for ages 7 to 14 and is designed for students who have completed 1.0 or already have basic photography skills.

Both. Little Lens Explorers is a hybrid class. Your child completes a short online lesson at home each week, then attends a two-hour in-person class at Crosspoint Church in Niceville, Florida, where they apply what they learned with a camera in hand. The online lesson comes first so that class time is spent practicing, not listening.

So that class time isn't spent lecturing. Two hours goes quickly, and every minute spent explaining a concept is a minute not spent shooting. Blending lessons with a short at-home lesson and review in class means your child arrives already familiar the week's idea and spends class time putting it into practice with direct feedback and instruction from the instructor.

Each weekly online lesson is short and designed to be completed at your family's convenience before that week's in-person class. Students can revisit any lesson as many times as they need.

$500 for the full 8-week semester, which works out to $31.25 per class. A monthly option is available at $250 paid twice — half at enrollment and half at the start of the second four weeks. Invoices are sent by email and all major credit cards are accepted.

Yes. Little Lens Explorers accepts Step Up for Students Direct Pay, which for many Florida homeschool families covers the cost of the course.

We serve families throughout Okaloosa County and the Emerald Coast, including Niceville, Bluewater Bay, Valparaiso, Fort Walton Beach, Destin, and Crestview.

For the Fall 2026 semester: Little Lens Explorers 1.0 meets Tuesdays 9–11am (homeschool) or Tuesdays 4–6pm (after-school), beginning August 25. Little Lens Explorers 2.0 meets Thursdays 9–11am (homeschool) beginning August 27, or Mondays 4–6pm (after-school) beginning August 24.

1.0 is the beginner course, open to ages 6 to 12, and covers the fundamentals — framing, light, color, holding and focusing a camera, and simple visual storytelling. No experience is needed. 2.0 is for ages 7 to 14 and is built for returning students and students with previous photography/camera knowledge It covers a deeper dive into composition, creative framing, and more advanced topics. Both run eight weeks and both end with a Gallery Night.

Start with 1.0 unless they already have real camera experience. The two courses overlap at ages 7 through 12 on purpose — placement depends on skill, not just age. If your child has already completed 1.0 or is comfortable with the basics of working a camera and photography skills, 2.0 is the better fit. Gallery Night is the finale of every semester. It’s a night where each student's own photographs are displayed for family and friends to see. It gives kids a real deadline, a real audience, and the experience of showing their creative work. It also is a night where the teacher can acknowledge the students creativity and hard work.
